Dwarf sandwort (Minuartia pusilla) COSEWIC assessment and status report: chapter 9

Special Significance of the Species

As Minuartia pusilla is at the northern range limit of the species in North America, there may be genetic differences between this population and the United States populations. The protection of genetically distinct peripheral populations may be important for the long-term survival of the species as a whole (Lesica and Allendorf 1995).

The species has no known special interest to science or to the public. There are no known horticultural uses, although some members of the genus are favourite horticultural rock garden species (Bailey and Bailey 1976).
