Piping plover (melodus subspecies) in Gros Morne National Park: critical habitat description

The Piping Plover (Charadrius melodus melodus) is listed on Schedule 1 of the Species at Risk Act as endangered. The Piping Plover (melodus subspecies) is a small (17–18 cm), stocky shorebird that nests on wide sand, gravel or cobble beaches, sandpits, or peninsulas in marine coastal areas and breeds within Canada in Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick. The Multi-species Action Plan for Gros Morne National Park of Canada identifies one new parcel of Piping Plover critical habitat within a federally protected area.

Notice is hereby given that, pursuant to subsection 58(2) of the Species at Risk Act, subsection 58(1) of that Act applies 90 days after the publication of this notice to the critical habitat of the Piping Plover (melodus subspecies), identified in the Multi-species Action Plan for Gros Morne National Park of Canada, which is included in the Species at Risk Public Registry, and is located at Western Brook Beach within Gros Morne National Park of Canada, the boundaries of which are described in Schedule 1 of the Canada National Parks Act.
