George Wayne Douglas (Ph.D.) (1938-2005), botaniste fort reconnu et respecté de la Colombie-Britannique, qui a notamment contribué au Comité sur la situation des espèces en péril au Canada (COSEPAC) par la rédaction de plus de 30 rapports de situation, est décédé à Duncan (Colombie-Britannique), le 10 février 2005, après une courte lutte contre le cancer.
