Sommaire biographique du rédacteur du rapport

Depuis 1994, Dwayne A.W. Lepitzki (Ph.D.) a mené à bien, à titre de biologiste indépendant sous contrat avec Environnement Canada, des travaux de recherche sur divers organismes aquatiques (grande douve américaine, amphibiens, microinvertébrés et macroinvertébrés des sources thermales), dont la physe des fontaines de Banff. Il détient un baccalauréat en zoologie (très grande distinction) de l’University of Alberta (1983), une maîtrise en zoologie de la Southern Illinois University Carbondale (Cooperative Wildlife Research Laboratory) (1986) et un doctorat en parasitologie de l’Université McGill (1993). Dans le cadre de ses recherches de doctorat, qui portaient sur l’épizootiologie et la transmission des métacercaires vivant dans les mollusques des digéniens parasites des canards Cyathocotyle bushiensis et Sphaeridiotrema globulus, il a travaillé sur les communautés de gastéropodes aquatiques du sud du Québec et du sud-est de l’Ontario. Ses travaux de premier cycle portaient sur le rôle joué par les escargots et les limaces terrestres comme hôtes intermédiaires des parasites des ongulés. Depuis 1996, il agit à titre de chercheur principal dans le cadre du programme de recherche et de rétablissement de Parcs Canada visant la physe des fontaines de Banff. En 1997, il a rédigé le premier rapport de situation du COSEPAC sur la physe des fontaines de Banff au Canada et, en 2002, le rapport de situation sur cette même espèce pour l’Alberta. En 2001, il a attribué des cotes provisoires à toutes les espèces de gastéropodes terrestres et aquatiques d’Alberta. Membre fondateur de l’équipe de rétablissement de la physe des fontaines de Banff, il est le premier auteur du plan de gestion des ressources pour le rétablissement de la physe des fontaines de Banff dans le Parc national du Canada Banff (2002) et du Programme de rétablissement et plan d’action visant la physe des fontaines de Banff au Canada (2007). Il est l’auteur ou le co-auteur de plus de 15 articles publiés révisés par les pairs et de plus de 40 rapprts internes (incluant des évaluations environnementales), et il a présenté les résultats de ses recherches dans le cadre de plus d’une trentaine de conférences régionales, nationales et internationales, de Victoria (Colombie-Britannique) à Liverpool (Angleterre). En 2005, il s’est joint au Sous-comité de spécialistes des mollusques du COSEPAC.
